About the Patriot Fund

The Patriot Fund connects generous donors with trusted nonprofit partners who deliver life-changing support to Veterans and their families.

Our Heroes Deserve the Best Support Available

After returning home from deployment, many Veterans are faced with the difficult transition to civilian life in one way or another. Experiencing a traumatic event and/or being seriously injured can make transition even more challenging and can lead Veterans to suffer from PTSD as a result of war. Millions of Americans carry the burden of war as spouses, parents, children, and friends. For these individuals, coping with their loved ones’ absence, mourning their deaths, or greeting the changed person who often returns can be extremely difficult.

Our Veterans and their families should not have to face the effects of war in their daily lives after having sacrificed so much. The Patriot Fund strives to be the foundation for our Veterans and their families to help with the transition to civilian life.

Connecting Our Military Veterans and Their Families

to Patriots Who Can Help

At The Patriot Fund, we serve our nation by honoring military Veterans and their families. We do this by hosting fundraising events designed to inspire and educate the community about the needs of our local Veterans. The Patriot Fund’s 12-Step Due Diligence process is focused on finding reputable charities that passionately deliver immediate and long-lasting impact for your local Veteran community. It is because of your support and generous donations that we are able to deliver on our mission.

“The Patriot Fund Board of Directors and Advisory Council is comprised of a dedicated group of professionals who volunteer their time, resources and networks to ensure a powerful and immediate impact on our Veteran community through our numerous Operational Partners. We ARE making a difference!” – Pam Davis, Executive Vice President and Secretary of The Patriot Fund

The Founding of the patriot fund

Plans for The Patriot Fund began in 2014 when Todd Sherman, Major General Steven Hashem, U.S. Army (Ret.), and Joseph Caruso came together through a shared commitment to patriotism and a desire to support the Veterans and families who have sacrificed for our country.

Each brought a personal connection to the mission. General Hashem served in the U.S. Army for 41 years. Todd had planned to serve in the military from an early age, but a medical condition prevented him from fulfilling that goal and left him searching for another meaningful way to serve. Joe grew up in a military family and witnessed the sacrifices that accompanied his father’s 27 years of service in the U.S. Navy.

Together, they believed that connecting civilians with powerful, personal stories of impact could inspire both patriotism and philanthropy while generating meaningful support for organizations serving those who had served our country.

From the beginning, The Patriot Fund was built on a simple premise: emotional stories of impact inspire action. By providing Veterans with a platform to share their experiences directly, the founders sought to engage individuals and communities that wanted to make a difference but needed a meaningful and trusted way to do so.

They also recognized a significant challenge. Among the tens of thousands of charities serving Veterans across the country were passionate organizations doing extraordinary work but lacking the visibility, resources, and reach necessary to connect with broader philanthropic audiences. Todd, Steve, and Joe saw an opportunity to bridge that gap by identifying and supporting effective organizations making a direct difference in the lives of Veterans and their families.

To accomplish this, The Patriot Fund developed a rigorous 12-Step Due Diligence process to evaluate, approve, and continually assess Veteran serving nonprofit organizations before and after grant funding is awarded. This disciplined approach helps ensure that donor contributions are directed toward organizations that demonstrate effectiveness and produce measurable outcomes.

Following a successful seed event in 2015, The Patriot Fund established The Patriot Invitational in 2016. The inaugural event raised more than $100,000 and demonstrated what was possible when people were given a direct and personal connection to the Veterans and organizations they were supporting.

Today, guided by an all-volunteer Board of Directors composed of accomplished business and community leaders, The Patriot Fund remains committed to their promise to our Veterans at the heart of its founding: We Have Their Six. They were there for us when our country called. We are committed to being there for them when they need us.
