Command Chief Master Sgt. US Air Force (Ret) Will Markham

William Markham, Command Chief Master Sgt. US Air Force (Ret) directly impacted multiple national security taskings, and served as the senior enlisted leader at the squadron, group, wing, and center levels within the Air Force Special Operations Command. Will was one of the first U.S. Airmen on the ground in Afghanistan, a mere five weeks after September 11, 2001. For his gallantry and intrepidity in action, he received the Silver Star. Will served as the senior enlisted leader of a Joint Special Operations Air Detachment and a Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component, overseeing direct combat actions.

In April 2019, Will, along with a close team of legal and medical professionals, started the 501(c)(3) non-profit, Project OVAT (One Veteran @ A Time). Project OVAT focuses on the legal, medical, and mental health support of referred Veterans who are attempting to navigate the Department of Veteran Affairs disability programs. the organization proactively covers these costs entirely through charitable funds.

A constant professional since his retirement after serving for 30 years, Will was inducted into the U.S. Air Force’s Gathering of Eagles in 2018, and both Air Commando Association’s Air Commando Hall of Fame and the U.S. Special Operations Command’s Commando Hall of Honor in 2021.

Will joined The Patriot Fund, Inc. as the Executive Director in 2020.

U.S. Navy SEAL Commander Ryan Peters

As a U.S. Navy SEAL, Commander Ryan E. Peters’ dedication to our country is well respected by all and we are proud to announce that he is the recipient of the 2021 American Patriot Award.

Upon successfully finishing training and certification as a Navy SEAL, CDR Peters completed three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Leaving active duty in 2009, CDR Peters attended Rutgers School of Law, and graduated in 2012. In 2013, he was recalled to active duty service and spent ten months forward-deployed with a SEAL element assigned to Special Operations Command South.

Outside of his Navy SEAL background, CDR Peters currently serves as the Commanding Officer of SEAL Unit 18. This Reserve Unit is composed of 9 Officers and over 175 Enlisted SEALs and Support Personnel. This Reserve Unit is ultimately responsible for ensuring that SEAL Unit 18 is operationally ready to mobilize in support of Naval Special Warfare Global Force Management Requirements.

The Patriot Fund Board was proud to announce Ryan as the 2021 recipient of the American Patriot Award during our 2021 Patriot Invitational.
