Axel’s Legacy will live on Forever
One year ago today, I said goodbye to my service dog, Axel. His loss devastated me. At the time, I couldn’t imagine ever feeling better.
Today, I can tell you that when I think of Axel, I think of his amazing life. The places we traveled. The people we met. The hope he gave not just me but other veterans of the Forever Wars who struggled with the invisible wounds of their military service.
I think of how he continues to change lives — to save lives. I’m here because of him. But so is Leashes of Valor. We founded this organization to help ensure more of our brothers and sisters can experience the healing power of a service dog.
I think of how far we’ve come in the last 12 months alone, from opening a facility that bears Axel’s name to rescuing and training more than a dozen dogs now well on their way to meeting their warriors. I think the immeasurable ways you have supported us along the way.
A year later, I can confidently say this is Axel’s legacy. And each of you is part of that.
With LOV and gratitude,
– Capt. Jason Haag, USMC (Ret.) ~ Founder & CEO
