Healing starts at The Farm
Dear Patriot Fund,
It’s difficult to express just how appreciative we are of your support and, so proud of the trust you’ve placed in us. That support and trust enable us to continue serving veterans with PTSD, TBI, MST and other visible and invisible wounds related to military service.
Your news comes at a particularly poignant time – this weekend we have eight women on site, Veterans who’ve experienced military sexual trauma. Al and I had the honor of cooking dinner for them last night. I have to say it’s always a humbling experience to hear their stories when they choose to share. When they hug us and say their time here has been life-changing, it’s difficult to keep our composure. They are incredibly sweet, strong and vulnerable at once, and are always exceptionally grateful for the opportunity to attend our retreats. We always tell them it’s our deep pleasure, and our honor to have them here at the farm.
The truth is, their gratitude belongs to you because without your generous support the services we are able to offer Veterans would be greatly reduced. Many of our retreat attendees fly in from other places in the nation – we’ve hosted Veterans who live as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. We pay for their transportation to and from home, their lodging and food during their stay, and for the licensed and certified professionals who provide therapeutic services to them. All this costs Quantum Leap Farm almost $30,000 per retreat (we host up to eight of them each year). We never charge a Veteran for the services they receive here, whether it’s attending a retreat, participating in vocational rehabilitation activities, therapeutic horseback riding, attending Family Fun Days or Buddy-Check sessions. Veterans attend all our services free of charge because donors like The Patriot Fund make that possible.
It is not a stretch to say that together we are saving Veterans’ lives, and helping them develop healthy coping skills and strategies with which to manage the emotional, social, physical and financial challenges they face going forward. Endless thanks for your generous, impactful and continuing support.
With great appreciation,
Edie E. Dopking, PhD ~ Founder & Community Relations Director
